Replenish: A "disruptive" spray bottle that's better for the environment

We like seeing the recycling problem being attacked on multiple fronts. For example, single-use spray bottles are recyclable, yet for various reasons only 7% of recyclable plastic actually makes it into the right pile; so Replenish is a spray bottle that aims to extend its lifetime within your household.

Billed as a "disruptive new household cleaning product," Replenish is a durable bottle made from PET-1 (the most-recyclable type of plastic) that essentially comes to the consumer empty, with a "twist-on concentrate pod" containing concentrated cleaning solution. Fill the thing up with water, mix, and you're good to go. Once it's drained, you can buy more pods with different types of cleaning solution in them, and again, you refill it with water you've already got on tap. This means there's a lot less to truck around, as only 5% of the weight of your typical spray bottle is the actual active ingredient; the rest is plastic and water, needlessly adding to the carbon footprint.

DARK SIDE OF THE LENS

Relentless Energy presents Short Stories, a challenge to recognised core sports and music filmmakers…

The first Short Stories film, by renowned photographer and bodyboarder Mickey Smith, explores his world as a true waterman – both as an athlete and artist, and is called The Dark Side of The Lens.

“Originally I planned for the film to be more anonymous, rather than biographical, an all encompassing piece, to represent the photographers keeping the surfing machine afloat”, explains Smith.

Something that offers insight into what it takes to grind out a living as a water-based photographer in the surfing industry: a short experimental glimpse at a life lived in the shadow of obsessive photographic pursuits.”

“It also gave me the chance to ask myself a few questions, like, if you’re always observing and documenting what you see and experience, are you ever truly present? Questions like that where I could step back think and then see what the answers were”, Smith says.

No Toothpaste Needed for Solar Powered Toothbrush

Dr. Kunio Komiyama, a dentist at the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry in Canada, designed a new “solar-powered toothbrush” that cleanses the mouth without using toothpaste. When the light strikes wet titanium dioxide head more electrons being released, which are negatively charged fluid inside the mouth that can remove hydrogen ions from the plaque, making it easier to break down. No toothpaste is necessary. Currently, Komiyama is back with a newer model, Soladey-J3X, which he said pack twice the chemical punch than the original.

HOW IT WORKS

We don’t want to give too much away. After all, the Dream Machine is an event to be experienced. But close your eyes and imagine what it would be like if you could actually make the perfect luxury pillow, for yourself or for that special someone.

Picture an expert guiding you in choosing just the right kind of pillow based upon how you sleep best.

Envision yourself as a poet, composing just the right message to embroider onto a luxurious 280-thread count 100% cotton pillow protector.

Feel the excitement as your pillow fills with a sumptuous blend of duck down and patented Everlon® luxury fill. Not only soft and comforting, but a blend that will last so much longer than down alone.

Watch this pristine mixture swirl like snow, falling gently into a pillow that is never too hard or too soft. Because you tell us when it’s just right. Visualize squeezing it. Holding it. Hugging it. Until the inevitable happens—falling in love with it.

Recall the delicate fragrance of lavender as you select one of two divine, sleep-inducing aromatic sachets and add it to your pillow.

Now open your eyes. Are you excited? You should be. Because what you’ve just imagined isn’t a dream. It’s the Dream Machine.
